Born in Los Angeles to a mom who taught her how to play guitar, a dad who is LA Daily News columnist Dennis McCarthy, and grandparents that would take her along on their annual cross-country RV trips, Christie grew up humming Rocky Mountain High, reading Kurt Vonnegut and writing songs that attempted to bridge those vast ideological divides. After graduating UC Berkeley with a degree in History, Christie began recording her large catalog of original songs, starting with the sophomore release, Serendipity. Her second CD Everyday Real garnered critical acclaim, first with the song Nothing Moves Me landing on a Sharper Image compilation (along with Norah Jones and Diana Krall) and being selected for a few other high profile compilations including Target Stores and Wells Fargo. Then with Fold, featured in two episodes of the Lifetime TV show Army Wives. Christie’s next recording, Winter, was a departure from her folk-rock roots when she assembled a top-tier group of jazz musicians and recorded a cover CD of Christmas classics. The CD release included live performances featuring the jazz ensemble and Christie stretching herself on jazz vocals. These entertaining shows quickly became a popular annual event for Christie’s fans. In 2010, Christie went back to her roots and released her fourth and most recent full length CD, Modernity. While Christie’s passion for songwriting will always be an intimate and essential companion, in 2007 she began work in the solar industry. Now Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a national solar energy company, Christie spends most of her creative energies these days “saving the world in other ways.” MUSIC REVIEWS “Every once in a while you hear a voice that makes you stand up (or perhaps sit down) and reflect…Christie McCarthy possesses such a voice…dulcet, golden.” - Jason Slatton of Flagpole Magazine DISCOGRAPHY Rise & Shine (2011), Pop single INFLUENCESBob Dylan
