Christie McCarthy is a singer, songwriter, performer and recording
artist. Her influences include Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Willie Nelson and Pete Seeger.
The Singer in Christie “has one of the nicest voices anywhere,”
writes Jon Galucki of the Athens Red & Black News. Jason Slatton of Flagpole Magazine writes, “Every
once in a while you hear a voice that makes you stand up (or perhaps
sit down) and reflect… McCarthy possesses such a voice…dulcet,
golden.” Regardless of your taste in music, you will probably
find something in Christie's voice that reminds you of your heart and soul.
The Songwriter in Christie won the 2004 West Coast Songwriter Competition
(Americana category) for Flood Gates, was a Finalist in the 2006 International
Songwriting Competition for River Stone, and appears on several compilations
with her sultry tune Nothing Moves Me, including the Sharper Image’s
Sirens of Song (along with Norah Jones and Diana Krall), Target’s
Cocktail Hour, and Wells Fargo’s Women Trailblazers. “The
ranks of today’s best singer-songwriters will have to happily
make room for one more…with such strong songs so ably presented,
Christie McCarthy is an essential new artist,” writes Daniel Aloi
of Gannett News.
The Performer in Christie is a coin: Heads - the guitar-toting,
relaxed, irreverent troubadour: Tracy Chapman meets Neil Young. Tales - the 5-piece jazz ensemble, featuring eclectic
renditions of old-school standards and an annual holiday show.
The Recording Artist in Christie has released 4 CDs:
Winter
(2006), featuring hip renditions of holiday classics. Carol Swanson of Christmasreviews.com
writes, “Listening to Winter is like reclining in the corner of
your favorite jazz club while Christie performs just for you. It’s
cool, straight-up jazz.”
Everyday Real (2003), “has a classic country-rock quality, and Christie’s voice
is dusky, husky and delicious. A must for any singer/songwriter collection!”
writes a CD Baby reviewer.
The Fantasy Sessions (2000), a 6-song EP recorded at Fantasy Studios and produced
by the legendary Wally Buck.
Serendipity
(1998), Christie's sophomore folk release, featuring guest players Larry
Klein, Denny Fongheiser, Norton Buffalo, Tim Capello and Nina Gerber.
William Friar of the Contra Costa Times calls Christie’s sound
“rich, soulful, and tastefully understated. Indigo Girl fans would
probably take to her instantly.”
Originally
from Los Angeles, Christie lives in Berkeley, CA.
